The Finn Harps U17s will bid for double glory this afternoon when Declan Boyle’s side takes on Shamrock Rovers in the National League Final at Maginn Park in Buncrana (kick-off 3.00). The visitors have been installed as favourites but on their day the hosts are well capable of winning any game. Today’s match gives Harps a unique opportunity to win a second national title in the space of just a couple of month.
Boyle got his squad together for a final training session yesterday evening. On the positive side in team news Stephen McFadden is fit again following injury and will feature in the panel for the final. However Jack O’Donnell has not recovered in time and disappointingly for him won’t be involved against Shamrock Rovers.
Declan Boyle says it is the biggest game of the season for the Finn Harps U17s. “The team and players are really looking forward to this Cup Final and the biggest game of the season. It’s a great opportunity to achieve the double, cup and league in the one season and the players know it’s going to be massive challenge for us but one they can’t wait to get started on” Boyle said.
The Harps boss is acutely aware of the quality that their opponents possess. “Shamrock Rovers is an excellent team, well organised, and well coached and have good players and international players on top of that. We know we will have to perform to a high standard to win the game. We are quietly confident in our ability and that we can produce a good performance. And with a bit of luck on the day, we can beat Shamrock Rovers and win the league title.”
