Finn Harps 2-1 Irish Defence Forces
Two goals from sub Mikey Place secured a win for Finn Harps over the Irish Defence Forces in a friendly fixture played at the Coaliste Ailigh grounds in Letterkenny. Harps player Aidan Friel who is a member of the Defence Forces, played for his employer and scored a goal for the second week running. The Strabane native was one of the scorers for Ollie Horgan in the 7-1 victory over Cabinteely last weekend and this time he put the opposition in front before in-form striker Place came off the bench to find the net twice.
It was Harps tenth win in the last 13 matches and keeps the momentum going ahead of the first leg play-off on October 12 which is away to the winners of the Shelbourne/Drogheda United games. Friel gave the army outfit the lead just after the half-hour mark against the run of play. Place made it 1-1 each midway through the second half and then got what proved to be the winner. Horgan and Paul Hegarty will now continue the planning for the play-off games which kicks-off on Friday week the 12th of October. The first leg of the 3rd/4th play-offs is on this coming Friday the 5th of October when Drogheda Utd host Shelbourne. The return leg is at Tolka Park on the following Monday night the 8th of October.
