Bray Wanderers 1-3 Finn Harps (aet)

Finn Harps booked their place in the second round of the FAI Senior Cup thanks to a super extra-time win over Premier Division, Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds on Friday night. Ollie Horgan’s men came from behind after conceding a 14th minute goal. Sam Todd’s 64th equaliser forced extra-time and then the in-form Mickey Place put the visitors in front in the first period of extra-time. After the break Jacob Borg, with his first Harps goal, made sure Harps would be in the hat for the second round draw. The result also means that Horgan’s outfit are unbeaten in seven games.
Bray were on top in the early stages and took the lead when Paul O’Conor released Ger Pender who made no mistake, slipping the ball past Ciaran Gallagher. It was the first goal the Harps keeper had conceded after keeping clean sheets in the previous six league games.  The visitors kept their composure and came back into the game with Place opting to pass when perhaps he should have tested Bray keeper Evan Moran in the 37th minute. Then the on-loan John Kavanagh saw his cross clip the bar. At the other Darragh Noone came close for the hosts just before the break.
Horgan’s side equalised in the 64th minute when Todd scored for the second week in a row after latching onto a Ciaran Coll throw-in. The hosts had a great chance to go ahead again when Brian O’Gorman couldn’t finish in a one-on-one with Ciaran Gallagher. Both teams kept pushing for a winner with Gareth Harkin coming close for the visitors. Harps went in front seven minutes into the first period of extra-time with Todd providing the assist for Place to slot past Evan Moran.
Borg made sure of Harps place in the second round draw with eight minutes of extra-time remaining. The nightmare was completed for Bray when Darragh Gibbons was sent off just before the final whistle.
