The Finn Harps U17s dug deep to defeat Bray Wanderers 3-2 on Bank Holiday Monday at the Carlisle Grounds to secure their place in the final of the Mark Farren Cup. It was a rollercoaster of a semi-final with Declan Boyle’s boys 2-0 up at half-time. But Bray came back to draw level and so the hugely entertaining cup tie went to extra-time.
And then with penalties looming Jamie Doherty popped up with a late winner to put Harps in the Mark Farren Cup decider where they will meet either Cork City or Cabinteely. Goals from Ronan Gallagher and captain Daragh Ellison had put the visitors in a very strong position at the break but an impressive Bray outfit hit back to make it 2-2 thanks to a double from Evan Dunne. With just three minutes of extra-time remaining it looked like penalties until sub Jamie Doherty swooped for a dramatic late winner. Harps also missed a penalty in the dying seconds of the semi-final.
The Harps U19s can make the Enda McGuill Cup Final if they overcome Saint Patrick’s Athletic at Finn Park tonight, kick off at 7.30pm.
