Finn Harps 2-1 Drogheda Utd
Finn Harps carved out a superb victory over Drogheda Utd on Friday night in Ballybofey thanks to second half goals from Keith Cowan and Ciaran O’Connor. The visitors had led from the 25th minute courtesy of Sean Brennan but the introduction of Paddy McCourt at half-time proved a masterstroke by manager Ollie Horgan as the veteran midfielder’s free-kick was headed past Paul Skinner by Keith Cowan on 54 minutes.
Then the ex-Glasgow Celtic and Northern Ireland international’s splendid pass saw another sub Jesse Devers setup Ciaran O’Connor to fire home what proved to be the winner in the 64th minute.
Horgan made two personnel changes from the win in Longford with Mark Timlin and Ciaran O’Connor returning to the starting 11 with McCourt and John O’Flynn dropping to the subs bench. McCourt was actually only the pitch 24 minutes as he suffered a reoccurrence of a calf injury and had to be replaced by Lee Toland.
