Having had time to sit down and watch the video and reflect on the game, the boys can count themselves very very unfortunate not to be involved in a National final this weekend. We dominated the majority of the game and created loads of chances.
As coaches, our biggest fear during the week was that the boys might freeze on the big stage under lights, in front of a big crowd, but that certainly wasn’t the case. They played some great stuff and expressed themselves exactly the way we would have hoped and they can be proud of this.
Overall the short season was a huge success on and off the pitch, I have coaches Gary, Glen and Andrew who have been top class in looking after the boys and have grown as coaches, our physios Nichola / Tommy had a great input as well.
But, more importantly, I’d like to think that the players we have signed from 1-20 have improved their over-all game. We finished the season with most goals scored, 8 clean sheets, International call-ups and in my eyes these 20 boys are in the top 40-50 Elite players in the country. We had 4 players Patrick, Fionnan, Daniel and Jamie who are underage next year again and were top notch when called upon.
I told them after the game they are great role models for the boys coming behind them, technical ability will only get you so far, you have to be prepared to leave it all out there in every game, and that’s what they gave done from day 1.
We will be having a debrief tonight to mark the end of the season, I am in no doubt these boys can have a career in football if they push on and try and get into Declan’s U17 side.
The National League intro season in my eyes was a great success and these boys thrived in it, and we look forward to bringing a new group together over coming weeks and help them progress like last years squad.
We would like to thank all the match-day sponsors and especially Conor McGettigan of Applegreen for his overall sponsorship of the U15s.
