It seems not a week has gone by this season that Finn Harps Manager Paul Hegarty didn't have a selection headache and for Friday's game against Bray Wanderers at Finn Park, his squad will be tested to the limit. That's because in addition to the long term absentees of Jonathan Minnock, Cornelius Gallagher and Aaron Labonte, Hegarty will have to plan without the suspended trio of Shaun Holmes, Sean Williams and Stuart Malcolm.
In addition, Gary Beckett who made his long awaited debut in the 2-0 defeat against Bohemians on Tuesday night, limped off after 58 minutes and is also a doubt for the visit of Wanderers. Marc Mukendi is also a serious doubt with a leg injury. On a more positive note, however, is the fact that Harps will have Stephen Parkhouse available for selection again after the towering striker sat out the Bohs match through suspension.
Bray aren't fairing much better on the suspension front and Seagulls Manager Eddie Gormley will have to prepare his side for the trip to Ballybofey with four players banned – Kevin Doherty, Ronan Ivory, Gary McCabe and Mark Duggan.
This will be the second home game in the space of 72 hours for Harps and reflecting on the Bohemians game, Hegarty felt that his side has something to build on from their second half performance against Pat Fenlon's side. "Even at one-nil down at half-time, I felt that we could get more out of the players and I felt we played really well in the second half. We showed good character and Kevin Ramsay was a hair's breadth from getting us a point out of it. I thought that we defended well in general and I thought that we looked very strong, but Friday night will be a different game."
When Harps met Bray earlier in the season, there was a sense of crisis around the Carlisle Grounds as Wanderers hadn't won or scored a goal in their opening four games. However, a 1-0 victory that night gave Bray a new lease of life and they have continued on a run that has seen them rise to the top half of the table. Hegarty believes that this should give his side heart for the months ahead and hopes that his side can go on a similar run.
